Playing the Blame Game!

A few days ago,I was listening to 2 young secondary school pupils discuss a match in which their school was beaten. They both blamed the referee for their school’s loss. And I just thought to myself how all of us play this particular kind of game which I have chosen to call ‘the blame game.’
It was first played in the Bible in Genesis Chapter 3. There, the serpent enticed Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. Eve,on her own, enticed Adam, her husband. But when God asked who was responsible for the disobedient act, Adam said it was Eve. Eve,on her own part, pushed the blame to the serpent.
While you may be quick to blame the first couple for leading the whole world into sin, remember you also play the blame game. It’s always somebody who is responsible for your failures in life. If it’s not your wife,it’s your kids,if it’s not your parents,it’s the Government. Come on,wake up and take responsibility for your life. It’s so easy to point accusing fingers at someone else but the real truth is,in the process of pointing a finger at another person, you are pointing 4 fingers at yourself. So,tell me,who is the person with the greatest blame? You, off course. And because you’re solely responsible for your life, start challenging the ‘blame-another-person’ mentality, and get this essential mantra straight into your head: “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.”

Think I first saw this in Tough Times Never Last, but Tough People Do, a classic by Robert Schuller. But now, it resonates so powerfully. “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.” You can affirm this to yourself several times a day to make it a part of you. It has such a liberating and powerful force. But tell me,why should I blame another person for how my life has turned out to be? That means I have seeded the power to control my life to a fellow human being. But,I refuse to do that. I will take responsibility for my life. If I have ever made any mistakes, I will pick up the pieces of my life and turn the tide in my favour again.
Yes,it’s up to me and no one else. You see, a lot of  transformation in your life occurs not because someone else is different, not because their attitude got better, but because your attitude improved. So, stop blaming others and make the change in attitude begin with you.
