Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson, who often preaches at his local church and in other venues around the country, said it could not be stressed enough that America was founded by “Christians” and “not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
“America, America, it cannot be said too strongly or too often, that this great nation was not founded by religionists, but by Christians – not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” said Robertson at the “I Stand Sunday” event in Houston, Texas.
The event was held to defend five Houston pastors who had been targeted by an overzealous lesbian mayor, who demanded they turn over their sermons and correspondence related to a pro-LGBT ordinance.
Robertson continued, “Patrick Henry, a great orator and one of our Founding Fathers, said that. The Apostle Paul said the Gospel has divine power to demolish strongholds.”
The actions by Mayor Annise Parker sparked national outrage and a protective-order lawsuit was filed against the City of Houston by the Alliance Defending Freedom. As a result of the backlash, Mayor Parker withdrew the subpoenas issued for the pastors’ communications about repealing the ordinance. The law, the so-called bathroom bill, allows transgender men to use women’s or men’s restrooms.
The “I Stand Sunday” event, attended by thousands, occurred on Nov. 2 at Pastor Steve Riggle’s mega-church and was also viewed simulcast by more than 2,500 churches and home groups nationwide.
Phil Robertson is an elder at the White’s Ferry Road Church in West Monroe, La., where the Robertson family regularly attends church.
He is the co-executive editor, with his eldest son Alan Robertson, an ordained minister, of the recently released Duck Commander Faith and Family Bible.
